Man clings to car bonnet in Dandenong ‘road rage’

See video of the incident here.

A MAN clung to a car’s bonnet for a kilometre-long ride in Dandenong during a road rage incident last Saturday.

Police say the Beaconsfield man, 51, held on while the car travelled up to 25 km/h from the Webster Street-Princes Highway intersection at 12.40pm until the driver pulled into the Dandenong police station.

The driver, a 34-year-old Dandenong man, was in his red Kia SUV with his wife and two preschool children.

One of the occupants filmed the scene on their smartphone and a call to triple-0 was also made from the car.

The rage began in Frankston-Dandenong Road when one driver was accused of cutting off the other.

The Beaconsfield man got out of his car, allegedly banged on the SUV’s window and rode on the SUV bonnet as it drove away.

Detective Alistair Boyd of Greater Dandenong CIU said the SUV driver faced a potential charge of recklessly endangering life.

The other man may be charged with unlawful assault, Detective Boyd said.

‘‘We’d recommend that drivers call triple-0 rather than drive away [with someone lying on the car bonnet].

‘‘They were close to a police station and police could come around there quickly.’’
