LONG-time Dandenong karate dojo, AM Shukokai Karate, has moved to new premises.
After 18 years based in Box Street, the dojo has moved to 2/147 Greens Road, Dandenong South, and sensei (master) Ennio Anselmi has praised the club’s new dojo which is triple the size of the previous one.
He said the new dojo offered his competitors, many of which compete at national and international level, more room to hone their craft. “Our elite athletics need the room to work because they are training in a particular way.”
While the move has worked out well, Anselmi said the move was sad as the dojo had housed many memories and been originally sort out by the club founder sensei Alan Murdoch, now deceased.
“We were in Box Street for 18 years,” he said. “So it was hard to leave because we had lots of the memories, most of us had grown up there after Alan Murdoch started it. Like your own house, your first car, you don’t want to let it go.”
Anselmi said the club wanted to grow its members with karate suited to people of all ages.
He said the dojo took on children right through to senior competitors. Classes have a maximum of 20 and the dojo offers introductory classes to get people started in the sport.
The dojo also offers classes in other self-defence arts including kick-boxing and more cardio based classes.
