WORKERS at Nissan’s metal-casting plant in Dandenong South have sacrificed their Christmas bonus hampers, instead pooling the funds for the Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Appeal.
Nearly 180 staff requested their employer to donate the $6800 hamper bonus to the appeal.
The company chipped in $3200 to make a total donation of $10,000 to help assist in the ongoing restoration efforts in the Philippines since October.
Specialist Red Cross aid workers are helping to provide health, shelter, food, water and sanitation.
Nissan Australia chief executive Peter Jones said the workers believed their contribution was the “best expression of Christmas goodwill”.
“The effects of the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan are far-reaching and the team at Nissan Casting Australia encourages everyone to contribute to this important relief fund.”
Red Cross is currently assisting hundreds of thousands of people after Super Typhoon
