Spirit of the game

UNITED positively on and off the field, junior footballers across the state will take part in the Spirit of Football Round.
Entering its second season, the round will bring together thousands of junior footballers in south-east Victoria, creating awareness of good role models, tolerance and sportsmanship among our state’s young athletes and their families.
Almost 8000 Australian rules footballers, aged between nine and 16, will take part in the Spirit of Football Round across Victoria this week between 22 and 25 May.
An initiative of the South East Juniors in partnership with The Beehive Foundation, AFL Victoria South East, and Fox Sports Pulse, the round will create awareness among players, coaches, club representatives and parents of the importance of being good role models, good sportsmanship and helping your mates.
The Spirit of Football Round will kick-off with a footy training clinic on Thursday 22 May at the Casey Fields ground run by AFL Victoria South East involving U15, U17 and Youth Girls’ clubs, coaches and parents in a collaborative manner.
SEJ General Manager Shaun Connell said the league was excited by this initiative following the huge success of the event last year.
“The Spirit of Football Round encapsulates the essence of junior sport which encourages participation and sportsmanship,” Connell said.
“SEJ continues to work with its member clubs in promoting positive environments for all players, officials and spectators.
“The programs delivered by Beehive to our member clubs are having a positive impact on clubs and our players.”
Director and Co-Founder of Beehive Foundation Michael Spiteri is delighted with the support from the South East Juniors, AFL Victoria South East Juniors, Fox Sports Pulse and Keep Your Cool for getting involved with this initiative.
