Cemetery on the move

SPRINGVALE Botanical Cemetery’s operator has purchased a property on the facility’s western edge.
Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) now owns 23 Smith Road, on the corner of McWilliam Street.
The factory was previously home to luggage manufacturer Samsonite, which relocated to Mulgrave last September.
SMCT declined to comment on the purchase or what it will use the land for.
