Rangers sweep the floor

SEABL – round 14

CALVIN Enge’s 100th SEABL game proved a lucky charm as Dandenong swept Ballarat.
Coming into the clash, Ballarat’s imports Roy Booker and Ken Horton had lit up the competition – leading the stats in points, rebounds and assists per game between them.
Booker had to sit out the clash with an Achilles tear, leaving the task to Horton and the Miners to halt Dandenong powerhouses Daequon Montreal (23 points, 10 rebounds) and Tony Lewis (23 points, 13 rebounds).
The Rangers two towers proved too tall for Ballarat to lock down, especially when captain Andrew Harms (15 points, 9 assists, 4 steals) fed them the ball at will.
Dandenong turned on the afterburners in the final term to hit 23 points and take a comfortable 14-point win, which gives the Rangers a chance on Saturday night to battle for second spot in SEABL East against Nunawading.
Meanwhile in the women the start of their sweep began on the back of Lauren Scherf’s (15 points, 12 rebounds) seventh double-double of the season to help guide Dandenong to a 23-point win over the Rush.
Dandenong stole the ball ruthlessly to sink 16 points off turnovers, which pretty much proved the difference between the sides.
Led by former Ranger Steph Cumming, Ballarat could not hold back the twin centres of Scherf and Jacinta Kennedy (18 points) while Amelia Todhunter (13 points) also made her mark on the scoresheet.
Dandenong’s three-point game was lacklustre as the Rangers hit 1/11 from beyond the arc.
The win keeps Dandenong on top of SEABL East women’s conference.
