Thunder left feeling green

NATIONAL PREMIER LEAGUES VICTORIA
– round 19
ANOTHER heartbreakingly narrow loss left Dandenong Thunder without much to show for its resolve in a 0-1 loss to Bentleigh Greens.
Both sides struggled to gain much ground on field or the scoreboard as shots proved difficult to earn at George Andrews Reserve on another frosty Saturday night in the south-east suburbs.
The match was blown open as Bentleigh’s David Stirton latched onto a free kick from Ryan DeVries to take the lead in the 58th minute and from there the Thunder could not find the equaliser.
Dandenong has fallen from grace all the way down to 10th spot and will face Pascoe Vale, which had to abandon its match against Ballarat Red Devils in the 67th minute following a sickening forward-versus-goalkeeper collision.
NATIONAL PREMIER LEAGUES 1
– round 17
In the cross-town showdown, Dandenong City walked away with the points as Simon Storey and Dario Matkovic slotted the match-winners.
Injuries to Keegan Ziada and Joseph Sieh – both suspected hamstrings – were the only downsides in Dandenong City’s fifth victory which boosts it to 10th in NPL1 before its home clash against FC Bulleen. Springvale White Eagles remains 12th and will host Box Hill United.
