VICTORIAN AMATEUR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
Division 2 – round 13

KEEPING in touch with the top four, St John’s Old Collegians dispatched South Melbourne Districts by nine points.
After conceding six goals in the first term, the JOCs clamped down to halt the Swans’ flight. Drip by drip, kick by kick, St John’s fought its way back into the clash. Multiple goals to Aaron Abela, Adam Jones, Daniel Cattolico and Ben Ayache helped chip away at the lead, before the JOCs found themselves in front. The lead would be gallantly held as St John’s found another three majors in the final term to seal the deal and doggedly hold onto fifth place.
Anthony Brannan, Manny Jakwot and Darryn O’Connor led from the front to guide the astounding comeback victory.
St John’s travels to face last placed Glen Eira on Saturday.
VAFA CLUB XVIII
– round 13
WITH the AFL celebrating Multicultural Round on the weekend, the melting-pot of nationalities that proudly represent Masala almost pulled off an upset.
The home side was left to chase most of the afternoon against Prahran Assumption, but gained momentum through the final term to hold the visitors scoreless and kick four-goals-five of their own. A 29-point margin remained too much for the Tigers to surmount, but they will be buoyed by the improved effort as their second VAFA season draws towards its conclusion.
James Logan, Brad Parker and coach Matt Peddlesden all won their positions for the Tigers while Jordan Toikalkin impressed the small, but vocal crowd, as he flew through the midfield and gained a number of possessions.
Masala remains in search of its second win of the year, facing top of the ladder Hawthorn this weekend away at Rathmines Road Reserve on Saturday morning.
