BOLLYWOOD, Hindu dancing and New Zealand’s traditional war dance were just some of the acts that students at Noble Park Secondary College performed for their Multicultural Day on Thursday 7 May.
They performed a 90 minute show for 300 eager primary school students during the day and again that night for family and friends.
Pathways co-ordinator Janelle Little said it was an emotional and exciting day.
“It was fantastic, the students were amazing and were very excited to perform in front of family, friends, staff and even ex-students who come back to watch,” Ms Little said.
The performance opened with an Australian anthem, I Am Australian, sung by the school choir with flag carriers and 22 different acts that students had been practicing during lunch times for the past 12 weeks.
“We had Vietnamese, Afghanistan, Thai and Korean song and dance and Spanish and Russian piano pieces,” Ms Little said.
“Students could choose what they wanted to perform and researched and choreographed the routines themselves,” she said.
“The students were very emotional after the performances, especially the year twelves after being involved in it for the past four years, they were emotional it was their last time.”
The whole school, annual event raised about $400 for the state school relief program which provides uniforms to disadvantaged students.
With large crowds of about 400 people the around the world performance finished with a lion dance.
“Students who had been trained in the lion dance finished the show with a Vietnamese lion which had been picked up from the local temple,” Ms Little said.
A celebration of the 50 different cultures at the school, Ms Little said the students “simply love it”.
