Residents out of the bus loop

HOUSING estates in Keysborough South remain off the bus network loop under the State Government’s budget plan.
In the government’s $100 million metro bus upgrade package, there was an extension of Cranbourne’s 897 service – branching it into Merinda Park, Lynbrook, Dandenong South and Dandenong.
This may alleviate an identified lack of east-west bus links into the Dandenong South employment cluster.
Greater Dandenong councillor Roz Blades said the budget failed to provide the sorely-needed bus network links into Keysborough South – which infamously has several bus stops not serviced by any buses.
Prior to the state election, the council proposed a Keysborough South bus route linking schools, homes and places of worship with stations, which could be provided at “little or no cost”.
The council also argued there were few east-west bus links between Casey residents to Dandenong South workplaces.
Public Transport Association spokesman Daniel Bowen said overall bus service upgrades were “limited”.
“Most routes remaining at relatively poor service levels.”
