VOLUNTEERS received thanks for their efforts at the Greater Dandenong Volunteer Recognition Event.
The City of Greater Dandenong hosted the evening in partnership with Greater Dandenong Volunteer Resource Service at Dandenong Civic Centre on Thursday 3 December – two days before International Volunteers Day.
It acknowledged 35 community service organisations which run 47 programs with generous volunteers.
Among those applauded were Carers of Africa volunteers.
The service based in Mason Street, Dandenong, aims to relieve distress, disadvantage, suffering, misfortune or helplessness and resulting unemployment that African migrants experience.
The council received recognition for its Meals on Wheels, Get Together Playgroup and Home Library volunteers.
Keysborough Learning Centre (KLC) volunteers were applauded for their efforts with the Keysmen Shed, Green Thumbs garden team, front office volunteer team, excursion assistants, English tutors, community visitor scheme, open door, Senior Surfers CALD Computer Program, Broadband for Seniors and the Evergreens Senior Group.
South East Community Links was recognised for the first time – the merged Dandenong Community Advisory Bureau (DCAB) and Springvale Community Aid and Advice Bureau.
Also recognised were the Australian Breastfeeding Association, Australian Red Cross, Avocare, Bestchance Child Family Care, Court Network, Dandenong and District Benevolent Society, Dandenong and District Historical Society, Dandenong Neighbourhood House, Dandenong Rotary Club, Eating Disorders Victoria, Friends of Refugees, Greater Dandenong Girl Guides, Interfaith Network, Jan Wilson Community Centre, Jesuran Wellness Centre, Launch Housing Dandenong, Lions Club of Dandenong, Monash Health Dandenong Hospital, Monash Health Refugee Health Volunteer Program, Neighbourhood Watch Greater Dandenong, Noble Park Football Club Juniors, Sandown Cobras Football and Netball Club, Somerfield Social Club, Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC), Springvale Benevolent Society, Springvale Learning and Activities Centre, Springvale Neighbourhood House’s literacy centre, The Salvation Army’s Noble Park Mission Centre, TRY Mentoring, Wallara Australia, Wellsprings for Women, Wesley Mission Victoria and Women’s Health in the South East (WHISE).
