A HAIR-RAISING event will return to Dandenong next month.
Colin Gibbons’s World’s Greatest Shave event at the Dandenong Workers Social Club last March attracted 65 people and raised more than $3000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
He’ll do it all again from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday 13 March and hopes to donate even more cash.
“Hopefully this year we can triple or double the money,” he said.
The Dandenong man lost a lung to cancer 15 years ago and last year gave up his hair to help others who have been affected by the disease.
His daughter Yao, then 17, shaved her hair last year and will return with hair colour in hand to help out.
Dandenong barber Ian Bray will again donate his services and “the club is 110 per cent behind us”.
“They’ve even asked for T-shirts for the staff to wear on that day,” Mr Gibbons said.
There’ll be a barbecue, a bar staff member will provide music and raffle prizes include scotch, a soft toy white tiger and a guitar.
“We want to make it a family day. Get down there and have some fun,” he said.
More than 31 Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma every day and an Australian will lose their life to blood cancer every two hours.
The Leukaemia Foundation funds research and free support for blood cancer sufferers and their families.
Dandenong Workers Social Club is at 48 Wedge Street, Dandenong.
