More Police Custody Officers are on their way to Dandenong.
The ninth and tenth PCO squads graduated from the academy on Friday 15 July and will be deployed to police stations across the state from Monday 18 July.
The 34 graduates cover different age groups, nationalities and backgrounds and include two former police officers, a farmer, a journalist, a lifeguard, a myotherapist, a retail assistant and a stablehand.
Assistant Commissioner Kevin Casey was proud of the work ethic and commitment the squads showed during their eight-week training course.
PCOs completed training in human rights, prisoner well-being, privacy, and operational safety and tactics.
Their duties include transportation and supervision of people in police custody, and looking after prisoners’ welfare by organising medical treatment, meals and visitation.
Dandenong Police Station’s first PCO started in February.
