Firebugs at work in wee hours

Firebugs struck three times in three hours in Noble Park and Bangholme.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Tony Lavars said it didn’t appear the Thursday 19 January incidents were linked, and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
He said Alfred Street residents reported seeing three men in the Noble Park Street about 1am – the same time a pile of hard rubbish was set alight on the nature strip.
The witnesses said they heard the men laughing, getting in a car and driving away from the burning junk.
The fire spread to a home’s front fence, causing minor damage.
About 2.30am the same night, firebugs lit two fires in close proximity on McMahons Road in Bangholme.
The CFA attended and notified police.
Det Sen Const Lavars said about 20 by 30 square metres of grassland was burnt and there was no sign that any accelerant had been used.
“Police are treating it as suspicious. There’s no reason why that should have started at 2.30am,” he said.
Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with any information.
