Fire brings traffic to a halt in central Dandenong

By Casey Neill

Central Dandenong streets are closed following a fire in the Dandenong Telephone Exchange.
The CFA advised shortly after noon today (Wednesday 19 April) that there was a building fire at the Walker Street site, near McCrae Street.
Firefighters are still at the scene but the fire is contained.
Due to the number of emergency service vehicles on scene, Walker and McCrae streets are closed and are expected to re-open at 1pm today.
“There is no immediate threat to the community and no action is required,” the CFA advised.
A CFA spokeswoman said the fire was called in about 11am and was declared under control about 11.15am.
More than four fire trucks attended the scene alongside police, who provided traffic control.
