Business women light for Angels
The fourth annual Dandenong Unites event collected donations for a Hallam support service for women, Angel Light Link.
The Maurice Blackburn Women’s Network hosted the event on Wednesday 25 October and asked guests to bring along gift cards and stationary items.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams was the guest speaker.
The event focused on engaging local women in professional fields, aiming to promote respectful relationships between genders, families, workplaces and the broader community.

Show yarn renews old ties
Hallam man Douglas Black called the Journal Star after reading about Graeme Kershaw’s time with the Dandenong Show in the 30 October edition.
Graeme was his first boss out of school down at Korumburra, he explained.
He bumped into him in Dandenong in the 1960s but hadn’t seen him since.
Graeme said he remembered Douglas and gladly received his details with the intention of reconnecting.

Liberals face off in Dark online spat
A photo from a Chilean Independence Day celebration on Casey councillor Susan Serey’s Facebook page sparked a fiery exchange between Greater Dandenong councillor Tim Dark and outspoken Liberal member Andrew McNabb.
Cr Dark, Cr Serey and South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich were all pictured.
Mr McNabb commented that Ms Peulich “knows how to recruit muppets” and Cr Dark replied that he was “still the same sore loser you were years ago”.
Mr McNabb disagreed, and said he wasn’t “a blind follower who’s told what to do like some”.
That prompted a final bite from Cr Dark.
“Tell me, how does it feel to be at an age where your whole political career is non-existent and you’re just a miserable old man?…”
Cr Dark has since deleted his Facebook comments.

Greens give Nina new role
Noble Park’s Nina Springle is the Victorian Greens’ new deputy leader.
The party appointed the South East Metropolitan MP in the wake of former leader Greg Barber’s resignation.
“I love living in Noble Park but the liveability of the area is under threat from traffic and inappropriate development,” Ms Springle said.
