Casey Council is reminding residents not to put the wrong items into their home recycling bins after a glut of non-recyclables were discovered at a Hallam site.
In a recent trip to a recycling facility in Hallam, council officers found a number of items such bedding, tyres, hoses and more among a mountain of recyclables – which had come from residential bins.
Casey Council posted photos of the hard rubbish they had spotted onto their Facebook page on 20 June saying it would “cause issues for the recycling process.”
“We ask you not to put: bedding, garden waste, polystyrene and foam, netting bags, or any plastic bags for that matter into your blue bin,” the post said.
“Other definite no’s are: tyres, hoses, furniture, material bags, soft toys, mattresses, helmets or material items,“ it added.Waste and Landfill Management manager Michael Jansen said “This is an ongoing issue and we continue to encourage and work with our residents around what goes in each bin.“
Mr Jansen said council undertook many initiatives to educate and work with residents on recycling.
This included education sessions with schools, groups and the community, via letters, brochures and articles, the annual Recycling and Waste Guide, through Council’s social media channels, and the Green Events Calendar.
