Solar company to face court

The state’s consumer watchdog has launched legal action against a Dandenong South solar-panel business and its director.

After investigating customer complaints, Consumer Affairs Victoria alleges that Vic Solar Technologies misled and acted unconscionably to consumers between 2013-’19.

CAV has also brought the Federal Court of Australia action against the company director Sunny Srinivasan, 29, of Templestowe.

Among the allegations was that the company used door-knocking of homes to enter into “unsolicited consumer agreements”.

In some cases, Vic Solar didn’t advise consumers of their cooling-off and termination rights, and started supplying and installing solar systems during a prohibited period, CAV claims.

In a statement, CAV states it will seek a fine against the company as well as compensation for its affected customers.

The matter is expected to be heard later this year.
