Aged care fire scare

PARAMEDICS attended to eight people after a fire at an aged-care home in Springvale last week.
The fire broke out in one of the apartments about 6pm last Thursday, 25 November, resulting in a lot of smoke and residents had to be evacuated.
Paramedic group manager Andy Roughton said no one suffered serious injuries.
“Thankfully everyone who needed to be evacuated made it out safely,” he said.
“There were about eight people in the vicinity of the fire and they were assessed by paramedics.
“Two people required our attention. One had a cut finger and the other was anxious and paramedics provided reassurance.”
Mr Roughton said the smoke soon dissipated and paramedics were able to help residents back into their accommodation.
“We worked very closely with the CFA, evacuated the area very quickly, assessed and treated the patients on scene promptly,” he said.
“There were no significant injuries and no one needed transport to hospital.”
