SMALL and medium industrial businesses in the City of Greater Dandenong are set to benefit from a $157,500 State Government grant to help reduce waste and save money.
The grant will go to the City of Greater Dandenong to develop a business environmental program for 45 businesses.
Environmental audits would be carried out on participating businesses, and improvements focusing on sustainable energy, water use and waste management would then be implemented.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos said the program would train businesses to use resources more efficiently.
“It will make industrial small and medium enterprises economically stronger and reduce their impact on our environment,” he said. “Using finite resources better and reducing waste production are two things we need to do to be a sustainable state. This is a challenge to small and mediumsized businesses as much as to big businesses.”
Environment Minister John Thwaites said the Sustainability Fund was set up to support projects that fostered the sustainable use of resources.
“The fund helps support local businesses, communities, councils and regional waste management groups to develop ways of reducing waste,” he said.
