Drain upgrade

A LARGE-SCALE upgrade to drainage in Central Dandenong is expected to disrupt traffic along the city’s streets.
The council is urging residents, traders and visitors to central Dandenong to use alternative routes due to drainage works, which commenced yesterday (Wednesday).
Drains along Cleeland, King and Clow streets in Dandenong will be upgraded as part of an $800,000 project.
Director development services Mal Baker said the works were important to upgrade the capacity of the area.
“The project will cover an area from Clow Street, up Cleeland Street, to King Street and up to and including a western portion of King Street,” he said.
“Traders affected by the works were hand-delivered a letter outlining, in detail, the works being undertaken.”
Mr Baker said council did not expect any complaints from local traders regarding the drainage works.
“Given traders have in the past experienced drainage issues first hand, the works have been welcomed.”
Council notices list closure dates as 24 April to 29 April for stage one, and 1 May to 5 May for stage two at Cleeland Street.
King Street will see a partial road closure from 8 May to 26 May, while a full road closure to Cleeland and Clow street intersection will be on 23 April.
