Multicultural ambassador

THE head of the Australian Multicultural Foundation (AMF) will be Greater Dandenong’s Australia Day Ambassador this weekend.
Dr Hass Dellal OAM has been executive director of the AMF since 1989 and has had extensive experience in dealing with multicultural issues.
Dr Dellal will be speaking at the Greater Dandenong Australia Day celebrations this Saturday about multicultural themes in what is one of Australia’s most diverse communities.
Greater Dandenong has more than 130,000 residents from 156 different nations with more than half of those residents born overseas.
Dr Dellal’s passionate approach to multiculturalism means he is a member with many advocacy groups and multicultural organisations.
These include the European Multicultural Foundation, Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues, the International Metropolis Project in Canada, the Melbourne Immigration Museum.
He is a convenor of the Diversity Matters forums, a member of the Victoria Police Ethical Standards Consultative Committee, and of the Victoria Police Multifaith Council.
He has received the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for services to multicultural organisations, the arts, and the community on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 1997.
Dr Dellal has also received the Centenary of Federation Medal in 2003.
