Seniors time to celebrate

A HEALTH and Well Being Expo today will form part of the City of Greater Dandenong’s week-long festival for senior citizens.
The expo, at Parkmore Shopping Centre, will include health checks, as well as cooking demonstrations, line dancing and a vintage car display.
The City of Greater Dandenong is this week hosting a week full of events designed to expand the opportunities for senior citizens in the local community.
The Victorian Seniors Festival, now in its 26th year, runs through until tomorrow.
Greater Dandenong mayor John Kelly said a variety of free and low-cost events would be held in the city focusing around the theme of “Be Inspired”.
He said residents would have the opportunity to participate in everything from tai chi, line dancing and music concerts.
“The Victorian Seniors Festival is a great chance to celebrate the contribution seniors make to our community,” Cr Kelly said.
“Seniors play a significant role in our community as mentors, teachers, grandparents, carers, as well as paid and unpaid workers.”
“It is important to recognise the role seniors play within our community and the valuable contribution they make.”
“Seniors Week is a great opportunity to participate in different activities and meet new people, “Cr Kelly said.
“I would encourage the senior members of our community to get behind this festival and have fun.”
A full program of events is available from the council’s customer service centres and senior citizens clubs.
