CENTRAL Dandenong’s $20 million transformation is underway, with the installation of stormwater pipes under Lonsdale Street nearing completion.
The new stormwater pipes will prevent flooding on Lonsdale Street, a previous problem during periods of heavy rain.
VicUrban’s Revitalising Central Dandenong development director Michael King said the preliminary works occurring in Lonsdale Street would play an important role in achieving the long-term vision for central Dandenong’s main street.
“By getting the right underground infrastructure in place now, we can move forward with confidence that the upcoming transformation of Lonsdale Street, as endorsed by the community, will stand the test of time.
“The preliminary works will be followed by the resurfacing of Lonsdale Street’s existing carriageways. This resurfacing work is anticipated to commence within the next three months,” Mr King said.
The final stormwater works are occurring between the hours of 9pm and 5.30am and are scheduled for completion this Friday. New stormwater pipes will be laid across Lonsdale Street at the intersections of Walker, Foster and Scott streets.
