Demons’ late burst flattens Dingoes

By Gavin Staindl
DINGLEY has gone down to Chelsea Heights by 70-points in peculiar circumstances at Beazley Reserve.
With the aid of a strong wind, the Dingoes raced out to a two-goal lead in the first quarter but only managed the one point for the remainder of the game.
Up against the Division One leaders, Dingley shocked onlookers by booting 4.2 to lead by 14-points by the first break.
Even at half time the Dingoes, who had not scored that quarter, were only down by a kick.
But the second half broke the game open and by the end of the match, the Chelsea Demons were doing as they pleased as the Dingoes managed a paltry behind, in the third quarter.
“At half time we were pretty excited that we could come out with the wind but credit to a top team, they were able to maintain concentration for the full four quarters and we were not able to,” Dingley coach Adam Quinn said.
“We just didn’t get our hands on the footy and they were getting a lot of ball out of the centre. In the last two weeks we debuted four under-17 kids and it shows that there are two clubs heading in different directions. They’re a finals-bound club looking to play finals this year and we’re just trying to develop our list and our under-17s for next year,” Quinn said.
Springvale Districts was soundly beaten by 159-points by East Brighton at Hurlingham Reserve in the other Division One game.
Lyndale fared only slightly better in Division Two, going down to Skye by 153-points at Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve.
Meanwhile, Dandenong was upset by Cerberus by 22-pointsin Division Three action. Holding a seven-point lead at the final break, Dandenong could not stop the cellar-dwellers rolling past the Redlegs.
