CASEY CARDINIA FOOTBALL LEAGUE
– round 13
THEIR’S was already a daunting task.
Facing mounting injuries, prospects of moving leagues and dwindling on-track numbers in an already horrible season, Keysborough was left to face the reigning premiers at the peak of their already immeasurable powers.
Narre Warren didn’t mince words, nor did it pull punches. Instead it delivered a monumental 233-point annihilation that will all but seal Keysborough’s decision to move away from the Casey Cardinia league and find more competitive pastures.
Narre Warren added to its already sizeable talent as it added leaping Toby Mclean to the line-up. Mclean returned for his third senior game this season after making a bit of a name for himself last week with an amazing mark in the TAC Cup with Oakleigh. His cult figure status will only increase after this week’s effort as he slammed on eight goals for the Magpies – four of which came in the first term for the crumbing half-forward.
Narre Warren could have unleashed him further, but Mclean was only allotted two and a half quarters to play on his release from Oakleigh Chargers for the weekend, further highlighting just how damaging this player can be.
Unfortunately for the Burra, the Magpies found another eight multiple-goal kickers – including eight from full forward Kerem Baskaya and seven from key target Aaron McIvor.
Saddest of all for Keysborough was it showed competitive patches – especially the first 10 minutes where it tested Narre Warren through the midfield – but never had the endurance to go the distance.
Tim Werner, Geoff Humphreys (2 goals), Davor Rajic – playing a shut-down role on Baskaya – and Bryce Sutton all deserve a pat on the back after maintain composure in the worst match situation imaginable.
The road gets a little easier for Keysborough after this weekend when it clashes with Berwick, as it faces Tooradin-Dalmore, Beaconsfield, ROC and Hampton Park to end the season and arguably its stint in Casey Cardinia.
