She’s all that

THE annual She exhibition will this month celebrate artwork from more than 100 female artists at Dandenong’s Walker Street Gallery.
Dandenong’s Siti Ermi Syahira Abdul Jamil has a vibrant and colourful piece on display.
Narre Warren artist Ilona Jetmar entered a piece she’d been working on for the past four years or so.
“I did an honours degree at Deakin that I finished in 2008,” she said.
“I was researching the sublime.
“My honours thesis was about the spiritual in paintings.”
Ms Jetmar’s work doesn’t have a formal title.
“I want people to experience my work on their terms,” she said.
“I feel like a title sometimes leads people.”
Lyndhurst artist Natalie Kosnar created Harajuku Girl from a photograph she took in Tokyo in 2011.
She said Harajuku was a place in Japan where teen girls from Tokyo’s outer suburbs would come each Sunday dressed in crazy outfits.
“The teenagers basically pose for tourists,” she said.
The 33-year-old was excited to be part of the exhibition.
“It’s exciting to be chosen as a finalist to start with and then to see the diversity of works on display … it’s amazing,” she said.
She is on display from 7 to 28 March in Gallery One at Walker Street Gallery, Robinson Street, Dandenong.
