Vu Ho, Baa go international

VU Ho’s campaign to keep his pet sheep, Baa, at his Springvale home has gone international with an online petition.

Last Monday, Greater Dandenong council tabled an online petition
of 651 signatures as well as 27 emails demanding the council let Mr Ho
keep his 16-year-old sheep.

Jacqui Yang, of Footscray, organised the petition, saying it would be “cruel and unnecessary” to separate Mr Ho and Baa.

“Baa has never been a threat to the community and is a gentle and
loving creature. Baa is … a household pet,” the petition stated.

Last week, Greater Dandenong chief executive John Bennie ruled out
allowing Baa to stay in the backyard. Under the council’s local laws,
livestock can’t be kept on less than half a hectare.

“We’ve had ongoing discussions with Vu Ho, trying to identify alternative locations,” Mr Bennie said.

Mr Ho intends to launch a High Court appeal against the council’s powers to control domestic animals.
