YEAR 9 students last week put their navigation skills and Greater Dandenong’s public transport to the test.
They participated in Race around the Community on 10 October, learning more about the programs, services and opportunities available to them within their municipality.
Teams navigated their way to services across Dandenong, Noble Park and Springvale using the public transport system.
Among their stops was Springvale Police Station, where officers sought feedback from them about their public transport experiences, particularly at night.
“We want kids to feel safe using public transport,” Dandenong Inspector Bruce Kitchen said.
“We gave them some tips and found out what they see could make it safer for themselves and community.”
Students also met with youth workers, participated in group activities, completed a scavenger hunt and collected service information.
They collected points as they worked their way through the course and the winning teams took home prizes.
Out to get about
