Classic cars are at the centre

CLASSIC car owners will help mechanics of the future in Dandenong this Sunday.
The Chisholm TAFE automotive training centre will host a car show and swap meet from 10am to 3pm, and give the public a glimpse at the latest technology in the field.
There’ll be tours of the centre, which has a full diagnostics lab, natural gas fired infra-red paint curing system and body repair workshops.
A pit stop challenge, a Goggomobil from the 1950s, electric go karts, food stalls and show bags will also feature.
The day will raise money for the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation, which was established in 2007 to provide financial scholarships to help students gain a vocational education.
Donna is one student the foundation has helped this year.
She’s completing a Certificate II in Automotive Vehicle Serving and is aiming to become a qualified mechanic.
“The foundation has given me the opportunity to make my dreams a reality,” she said.
“I’m one of two girls in class and the guys have been great making us feel very welcome.
“I love a challenge and can’t wait to get an apprenticeship.”
To register to display a car or stall, for $10 to $40, call 9238 8114 or visit www.carolinechisholm.org.au. Entry to view the event is by gold coin donation.
