POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a deliberately-lit grass fire in Keysborough.
A cyclist was riding east on the bicycle path on the north side of the Dandenong Bypass, about 300 metres east of Perry Road, about 10.20am on 7 December.
He told police he saw smoke in the distance and two men “staggering” east along the path – both described as Caucasian, aged in their 20s and apparently intoxicated, one with a thin build and the other a large build.
The witness then came across a small scrub fire and called triple zero.
Police and CFA crews attended and extinguished the blaze, restricting its size to about one square metre.
Greater Dandenong CIU Acting Detective Sergeant Luke Kirton said the incident was an important reminder for people to vigilant during summer and immediately report fires.
He urged anyone with information on this blaze to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
