CITY of Greater Dandenong says its workers reflect the area’s cultural diversity – but is it diverse enough to meet a new culture quota?
The Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria this month released the Work Solutions: Improving Cultural Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace discussion paper.
Recommendation 16 was that within 10 years, councils have at least one third of their workers from culturally diverse backgrounds.
It recommended local governments develop inclusive recruitment strategies and targets to increase employment of people from culturally diverse backgrounds to reflect the level of cultural diversity in the broader population.
The council’s people and procurement manager Anthony Camillo said the municipality was home to people from more than 150 different nationalities.
“This diversity is reflected not only in its residents, but by its restaurants, shops, council services and its workforce,” he said.
“The City of Greater Dandenong embraces and celebrates diversity but most importantly it embraces its workforce who strives to uphold council’s key values.”
