ATHOL Road Primary School has transformed a rubble-filled corner into wetlands.
Environmental studies teacher Brian Hunter said the Springvale South school’s senior students finished the project last week and were now Wetland Warriors.
“Their jobs will be to monitor the wetlands looking for weeds or rubbish, checking the water balance on a regular basis and organising activities down there for the wider school,” he said.
The water will soon be teeming with fish, frogs, turtles, insects and more.
“I wanted to be able to show kids that connection to the real life habitat instead of just glass tanks,” Mr Hunter said.
