SES volunteers responded to more than 65 calls for assistance during the wild weather that lashed Greater Dandenong last week.
Springvale unit controller Paul Daniel said there were about 50 call outs last Tuesday and 15 on Wednesday, ranging from fallen trees to building damage.
“We had about 15 volunteers working altogether,” he said.
The most significant job was in Clow Street, Dandenong, on Tuesday.
“A whole lot of debris got blown off a four-storey building onto a house,” Mr Daniel said.
“That involved a number of the emergency services – police, fire, the council, WorkSafe were all there.
“We had to wait until the debris was cleared off the roof from the house, and then later that night we were down there to basically patch up the roof and tarp it as best we could.”
The crew also removed a large tree that toppled in Joy Parade, Noble Park, blocking the street.
“That was the first bigger operation that I’ve been involved in since I’ve been at the unit, and I was really impressed with the way the guys worked,” Mr Daniel said.
“It really was a well-oiled machine.
“We seriously have got a great bunch of volunteers here. They are terrific.”
