THE presidency handover at the fledgling Dandenong City Lions Club could be said to have been kept ‘in house’.
Last month, the head title of the Keysborough-based club was passed from Ruwan Paul to his wife Lidia at a changeover dinner.
Ms Paul put the spouse-to-spouse handover down to circumstances.
“Other members had either been in Lions for a lot of time and weren’t interested, or others were new – and they can take over further down the track.”
Mr Paul, a retired Sri Lankan naval officer, and Mrs Paul, a migration lawyer, co-founded the club in March, aiming to attract younger members cracking to start projects.
Mr Paul had been president at another Dandenong-based Lions club, Ms Paul had been secretary when they opted to break away.
Ms Paul reeled off recent events such as a monthly dinner for homeless people sheltering at Hanover’s Dandenong units, funding scholarships for hearing-impaired children, a toy drive for child patients at Dandenong Hospital, and Good Friday Appeal fund-raisers.
At its most recent event, club members planted more than 1000 trees at Tatterson Park, Keysborough on a crisp Sunday morning this month.
The club meets 7pm every second Wednesday at 8B/9 Futura Road Keysborough. Details: 0423 469 569.
