Fire threat appeal

THREE deliberately-lit fires sparked a police appeal for witnesses last week.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Sergeant Ben Matlock said there was no evidence to suggest the blazes were linked.
“But fires are always concerning. We’re just appealing for witnesses to come forward,” he said.
Flames engulfed a bungalow on a property in Lee Street, Springvale, about 10.30pm on 19 January.
The CFA extinguished the blaze and crime scene investigators worked to determine its cause.
Sgt Matlock said there was no-one inside the bungalow at the time but the main home’s occupants were home.
Arsonists started a fire near a rubbish bin room at the rear of Dandenong Plaza on Lonsdale Street about 3pm on 18 January.
The CFA extinguished it before it could cause significant damage.
Vandals pushed clothing up against a timber fence and set it alight in Charles Street, Dandenong, about 5.30pm on 19 January.
Sgt Matlock said the fire caused minimal damage to the fence and neighbours extinguished it before the CFA arrived.
He appealed for anyone with information about the three fires to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
