A NEW aged care centre in Keysborough is leading the way.
Peak aged care body Leading Aged Services Australia (LASA) has selected Arcare Keysborough as an example of one of the state’s most transformed developments.
Delegates from around the country toured the Stanley Road facility as part of a recent national LASA conference.
They heard about Arcare’s innovative dedicated staff assignment, which involves all staff working with the same small number of residents every time they come to work.
Arcare’s strategy and innovation manager Daniella Greenwood devised the approach, which focuses on building relationships and celebrating old age rather than treating it as a sickness.
“Treating the elderly with respect and truly valuing humanness and relationships between older people, staff and family members is where the industry is heading,” she said.
“The main thing is that we are all treated as people and not a diagnosis or set of illnesses.”
Arcare Keysborough will hold an open day from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 14 November at 85 Stanley Road, Keysborough.
