GREENS MP Nina Springle is set to demand the State Government reject Greater Dandenong’s proposed reduction of a green wedge in state Parliament on 8 December.
In her proposed adjournment motion, Ms Springle will request that Planning Minister Richard Wynne “provide certainty” to residents, including about 600 in Willow Lodge retirement village, Bangholme.
Mr Wynne will have 30 days to respond to the motion in writing.
Ms Springle is opposed to Greater Dandenong’s request for a 320 hectare parcel of green wedge land in Bangholme bounded by Eumemmerring Creek, Harwood and Frankston-Dandenong roads and EastLink for industrial use.
The council is also submitting for the rezoning of Keysborough Golf Club for developer Intrapac to create a housing estate.
“If the Bangholme parcel is re-zoned for industrial use, it’s very likely that Willow Lodge’s residents will face much higher site fees to reflect higher industrial-zone rates,” Ms Springle said.
“They can also look forward to being surrounded by industrial developments and the uncertainty that a future owner will sell the land.”
A spokesperson for Mr Wynne told the Journal on 27 November that the government had “no intention or appetite” to change the urban growth boundary.
“We are committed to maintaining and strengthening the integrity of Victoria’s green wedges.”
