Man arrested in futile armed robbery

By CASEY NEILL

A 17-year-old boy was threatened with a knife during a bungled armed robbery in Springvale.
The victim, from Springvale, was walking on the footpath on Heatherton Road about 2pm on Monday 18 July when the man approached and demanded cash.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Marisa Owens said he told the victim he was carrying a large knife.
The victim said he didn’t have any cash so the would-be thief fled.
The boy called triple-zero and police attended the scene, and apprehended a 20-year-old from Heatherton shortly after.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 19 July, where he was bailed with strict conditions, and support services were put in place to minimise the chance of reoffending.
