The 30-year-old victim is still to be formally identified and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his lower body.
The incident happened about 4pm on Wednesday 26 October after police intercepted a car on Grace Street.
Police said a male passenger got out of the car and ran from them through several back yards before allegedly trying to steal a BMW sedan.

Police said the man confronted officers with a firearm and was shot.
Crime Command detectives will investigate the incident with oversight by Professional Standards Command as per standard procedure.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or who has further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
