Green light for aged care

By Casey Neill

A NEW double-storey residential aged care facility has been approved for Noble Park.
Greater Dandenong Councillors gave the application for 37-45 Fintonia Road and 1A-5 Mihan Street the green light at their Monday 28 November meeting.
It will feature 131 rooms and provide high-level care for dementia patients,
The building will be constructed from a mixture of brick, render and stone with a pitched corrugated iron roof.
The council received four objections to the proposal relating to noise associated with waste management and deliveries, illuminated signage, parking and traffic congestion, monotonous colours scheme and architecture, and impact on property values in the single-storey dominated area.
But a council report found that the site was well-suited for an aged care facility.
“The location of the site within an established residential area with dual frontages to both Fintonia Road and Mihan Street strengthens the appropriateness of the use of the land for such a purpose and lessens any adverse impact on neighbouring dwellings,” the report said.
“The development is respectful of the neighbourhood character whilst not replicating existing dwellings in the street.”
The report said that setbacks would allow for landscaping to soften the building, and appropriate parking would be provided.
“The proposed use is not considered to result in adverse amenity impacts on the neighbouring residential properties,” it said.
