Armed robbery, car theft charges laid

By Casey Neill

A Pakenham Upper man will answer armed robbery and car theft charges over a Springvale car-jacking.
Police arrested the 35-year-old on Friday 30 June over the 5 June incident. He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 15 September.
Police allege that about 9.40pm on 5 June, two men aged 22 and 26 were in a car travelling north along Springvale Road.
A driver in an allegedly stolen car collided with the rear of the victims’ car and they pulled over into Young Street.
Police said the victims got out of their car, as did two men from the other vehicle.
One, allegedly wielding an axe, threatended the victim, demanding he hand over his keys.
He complied and the second, unarmed man got into the victim’s car and drove into Peace Street.
The armed man allegedly got back into the vehicle he arrived in and followed.
Police urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
