Super load’s Dandy journey

The giant generator dubbed the ‘super load’ made its way through Dandenong with only a slight hiccup.
The 256-tonne generator made its way from Traralgon to the Port of Melbourne from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 February.
The first leg was from Loy Yang to Officer.
It left Officer about 9pm on Friday 2 February to head through Dandenong and Noble Park and reach Dingley by 5am.
Members of the public lined the streets to catch a glimpse and a photo.
A VicRoads video covered the journey, including its stint on the Heatherton Road overpass at EastLink.
“Climbing up the hill it lost a bit of traction,” a spokesman said.
“We had to add the third truck up the front to give him that extra power to just boost it up and tow him through.”
The transport vehicle was 108 metres long, 6.5m wide and 5m tall. It travelled about 20 kilometres per hour
A VicRoads crew followed the journey, directing traffic, helping the vehicle take corners, removing signage and lights and more.
The final leg took the generator all the way to the port to be loaded onto a cargo ship.
The super load will make its return trip in November following maintenance in Germany.
