New train on track

A life-sized model of the new train headed for the Dandenong line is on display in Birrarung Marr.
It made tracks from Membrey’s Transport and Crane Hire in Dandenong to Melbourne on Tuesday 6 February, shrouded in white plastic wrap.
The public can check out the new high capacity metro train design from Friday 9 February.
The Melbourne, meet your train display will include full access to the train, a virtual reality experience for kids, a public transport information hub, competitions and prizes.
Its time in the spotlight will wrap up with a light display during the White Night event on Saturday 17 February.
The model train will then be used for ongoing testing and training.
Premier Daniel Andrews said it was “the biggest, most advanced train in Victoria’s history”.
“We’ve worked with passengers, drivers and the experts to get the design of the new trains right.”
Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said work would soon start on building 65 of the 160-metre-long, seven-carriage trains at Melbourne’s Newport workshops.
