Families discovered the wonders of their own back yard at a school holiday nature event in Dandenong.
The Discover Dandenong Creek Festival at Tirhatuan Park on Thursday 12 April was part of Nature Play Week.
Its aim was to introduce residents to the wonders of the Dandenong Creek Trail and the role they can play it protecting it for future generations.
The event included a free barbecue, fishing, face painting, a live animal shows, native fish displays, science activities, wetland walks and live music.
Living Links and Greater Dandenong Council presented the event.

Sarah Maclagan said the event was a great opportunity for residents to learn about their local environment.
“Connecting with nature is so important for our health and wellbeing and you don’t have to go far; there are so many beautiful green spaces to enjoy right in your own neighbourhood,” she said.
Greater Dandenong Mayor Youhorn Chea said the festival was part of a broader $1 million State Government project to transform the Dandenong Creek Trail.
“The project is undertaking a number of key environmental initiatives at 38 priority sites, nine of which are in Greater Dandenong,” he said.
“There is an amazing diversity of flora and fauna in this area which we are currently enhancing.
“This festival is our way of educating people about their own backyard and encouraging them to visit.”
