EFL: Bulls get the job done waiting for the cavalry

By Roy Ward

THE cavalry is coming for Noble Park but it may not include star midfielder Ziggy Alwan.

An undermanned Bulls side beat South Croydon by 41 points on Saturday with the side featuring six under-18 players and several reserves players.

Bulls coach Mick Fogarty said the win was outstanding for the club and kept the side on track for the finals just as several injured stars return.

“It was a terrific win,” Fogarty said. “I was really happy considering we had six under-18s and some of the guys who came up from the seconds performed well on the day. Guys like Suni Jayasinghe, Joe McLelland and Steve Tolongs all did the job for us.”

But Fogarty also said Alwan, one of the Bulls’ most important players, could miss the rest of the Eastern Football League division 1 season after he meets with a surgeon this week to get more tests on his injured shoulder.

“Realistically you would think we won’t get him back,” Fogarty said. “But he will see a surgeon this week so it will depend on that.”

Fogarty was buoyed by the prospect of at least six Bulls players returning to the field this week.

Fogarty hasn’t given up hope of earning a double chance despite the Bulls sitting in fifth spot. “If we win every game from our last four matches then we are a big chance,” he said.
