Driver on tracks faces charges

A Springvale South man faces multiple charges after driving a car between platforms at Springvale station.

Police say the 31 year old drove off Springvale Road and onto the tracks about 10pm on Saturday, driving almost 100 metres before becoming stuck in the track’s ballast.

The car, which also contained a passenger in his 20s, struck a platform wall during its off-road drive and had to be towed from the scene.

Detective Senior Constable Alistair Boyd of Greater Dandenong CIU said it was fortunate that an outbound V/Line train was alerted and stopped before it reached the station.

He said the “extremely intoxicated” driver of the car was arrested and taken to hospital for a blood-alcohol analysis.

The driver faces charges including reckless conduct endangering life, driving in a dangerous manner and drink-driving.
