Housing plan for Doveton, Eumemmerring school sites

By ALECIA PINNER

THE state government wants to rezone three former school sites in Doveton and Eumemmerring as residential areas.

A total of 10.4 hectares – at Doveton Secondary College in Box
Street; Doveton North Primary School in Rowan Drive; and Eumemmerring
Primary School in Doveton Avenue, Eumemmerring – will be the subject of a
trial strategy to get surplus government land rezoned and quickly sold.

An independent advisory committee will evaluate the plans. Council
officers will prepare a submission for the council’s September 3
meeting, including consideration of the impact on significant trees at
the sites.

A public hearing process will follow in mid-September and early October.

The buildings at Doveton Secondary College and Eumemmerring
Primary School have been demolished. Doveton North Primary’s buildings
are vacant, disused and run-down.

Information and submission details are available at casey.vic.gov.au/planningexhibition.
