Birthday bring family together

A SPRINGVALE great-great-grandmother has celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by family from four generations.
Norma Shaw was “very, very excited” to see the reunion come together for her milestone.
“Her eyes just lit up,” grand-daughter Amanda Holt said.
“Everyone got to spend some time with her and talk to her.”
Mrs Holt travelled down from New South Wales with her husband, children and grandchildren. Other family members came from Queensland, Tasmania, and around Victoria – Mrs Shaw’s 88-year-old sister even made the trip from a Metung nursing home.
The celebrations started at Lexington Gardens Hostel in Springvale, her home of the past five years, on her date of birth, Friday 18 January.
They continued on Sunday 20 January at Waltzing Matilda Hotel in Springvale with a “lovely, big gathering”.
All the attention wore her out. At 4pm on Sunday she told the family she was done and ready to go home.
“She makes us laugh,” Mrs Holt said.
“I remember as a kid she always had 50 cents and a bag of lollies for us.
“She’s just an amazing lady. She never has a cross word about anyone.”
