DANDENONG bus builder Volgren Australia handed over the first of 38 new buses to the Ventura Bus Group last week.
The buses are part of a $6.5 million contract with Ventura and the outcome of a $3 million three-year investment in a new design to improve driver ergonomics and cut operating costs.
Manufacturing Minister David Hodgett said a State Government grant supported the development.
“The funding was directed to assist Volgren in becoming more productive and innovative through investment in new equipment, infrastructure, technology and product or process innovation,” he said.
“Victorians travelling on Ventura’s routes will be the first to enjoy the benefits of these new buses, and I am pleased to note that the vehicles have been designed for national and potentially international markets.
“Volgren sets a great example for the future of Victorian manufacturing, developing leading edge products for specialist markets, through a focus on skills and innovation.”
